Marilyn Robertson

Marilyn has an emphasis on healthcare entities and has broad practice representing a variety of clients transacting business within the healthcare industry, including physician practices, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, rehabilitation facilities, managed-care organizations, nonprofit healthcare organizations, pharmacies and management companies.

Marilyn also assists clients with issues regarding Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement; state and federal licensure/certification of healthcare facilities; Stark Law and anti-kickback analysis; and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and other regulatory matters.

Representative work on behalf of industry clients includes:

  • – Organizing and structuring joint ventures nationwide, including hospitals, physicians, ambulatory surgery centers, pharmacies and imaging centers.
  • – Interpreting and analyzing compliance with federal and state fraud and abuse statutes and applicable regulations and the Stark statute and regulations.
  • – Advising clients regarding the formation, merger and acquisition of medical groups and facilities.
  • – Advising and assisting clients in obtaining licensure to operate in Texas as a health maintenance organization, third party administrator and utilization review agent.

Marilyn is certified in healthcare compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association.

Professional and Civic Associations
Marilyn is a member of the American Bar Association, Health Law Section and the American Health Lawyers Association.  Since 2012, Marilyn has been an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Health Lawyer, Board of Directors.  She is also a member of the Health Care Compliance Association.

Since 2011, Marilyn has served as ad litem attorney for foster children in the Austin-Travis County area.  Since 2012, Marilyn has served on the Jane’s Due Process Board of Directors.  She currently is the chair of the Board of Directors of that non-profit corporation.

Fun Facts
Marilyn spends most of her free time with family and friends.  Marilyn enjoys watching and attending sport events, traveling to the Caribbean, and attending all kinds of musical performances and festivals.
